Can I buy direct from Desch Plantpak? |
| Desch Plantpak has opted for distribution via wholesalers however we have made an exception for the seed and propagation sector. There are a lot of new developments in this sector every year such things as product adaptations, purchase of new moulds, automation, logistics, growing mediums etc. This requires a lot of attention and a direct approach from the product specialist. Standard seed and propagation products are of course available from your regular supplier. |
 |
What is the delivery time for a new mould /new product? |
| 6 to 8 weeks is usual. Of course, if there are a lot of new products being developed delivery can take a little longer. Naturally, a lot depends on the product’s complexity. |
 |
Is it possible to get a model of the new product first? |
| Yes, this is possible. |
 |
What does a new product like that cost? |
| The costs depend on whether or not we can use an existing module or whether we have to make a completely new mould. If it’s the first case then we may be able to use an existing punch, external mould etc. In this instance the total cost would be considerably lower. |
 |
Are the moulds made on the premises? |
| Desch Plantpak makes a part of the mould on the premises and a part is made by a third party. All designs are made by Desch Plantpak itself. |
 |
What are the stages of such a process? |
Generally speaking, if Desch Plantpak receives an order for a new or adapted product the following steps are followed:
- The production specialist discusses all the requirements for the new product with the customer.
- These requirements are put on paper by the draughtsman in a working drawing.
- Mould costs, unit price etc. are researched and calculated.
- The drawings and quotation are discussed with the client.
- A model may be made if the client requires this.
- Our production specialist would then visit automation companies to discuss the drawings to ensure that the new product is always easy to process.
- If the drawings and quotation are accepted the mould is ordered and production is planned.
- When the mould is ready first a 0-series is produced. The client is often invited along for this so that a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ can be given immediately.
|
 |
Does Desch Plantpak also make (new) customer-specific products? |
| Yes, Desch Plantpak’s R&D department and production specialists are doing this every day. In this way we are able to respond to market demand for new products and innovations quickly and efficiently by producing new, innovative products. |
 |
What tray characteristics are important for automation? |
The following are some of the important characteristics for automation:
- cell form and pattern
- punched holes in the bottom
- good stacking properties to facilitate de-stacking
- tray sturdiness
- presence of de-stacking projections or a curved edge
|
 |
Are all seed and propagation trays suitable for push-out plates? |
| No, if a tray has holes burnt in the bottom then using a push-out plate is just about out of the question. The disadvantage of burning holes in the bottom is that the pattern of the holes often isn’t uniform and that there can be variation in their size. |
 |
Do you sell push-out plates? |
| Yes, these are made to order for each type of tray. The push-out plates are made from aluminium. The pins are fixed with sunken bolts which make it quick and very easy to replace pins that are broken or have become worn etc. The pins are also available separately. |
 |
How fast can you supply products? |
| If in stock Desch Plantpak delivers its products within 24 hours. Within the Netherlands calling before 12:00 means next day delivery! Almost all Desch Plantpak distributors keep stocks and can supply the most current products from stock anywhere in the world! |
 |
Can the seed and propagation products be steamed and what is the maximum temperature? |
| PS products cannot be steamed. Desch Plantpak is currently carrying out tests with a High Temperature sheet. Products made from this sheet can be steamed! It can withstand temperatures from - 30 to +160 degrees. |
 |
What are the minimum numbers for a different colour? |
| That depends on the model and whether or not the product was already planned for the machine. The start-up total varies from between 5,000 and 25,000 units. |
 |
Is there a seed and propagation tray available in white? |
| Some trays are supplied white as standard (see our catalogue) and the trays that aren’t can always be supplied white to order. |
 |
How long can you use a reusable tray for? |
| That is difficult to answer because it is completely dependant on the conditions of use. Are the trays used inside or outside, are they handled a lot logistically etc.? The rule of thumb for a reusable tray is approximately 3 to 7 years. |
 |
Are all seed and propagation trays available in reusable versions? |
| No, not all of them. The MTS series, growing tray series and the Jumbo series are available in reusable versions. |
 |
Do you also retrieve used pots and trays from the market? |
| Yes, at the moment we collect used PS trays and PP pots returned from the market. |
 |
What would be the retrieval conditions? |
